Jeep Brand Officially Launched; Wrangler and Grand Cherokee Prices Revealed

FCA-owned iconic Jeep brand has officially launched its product line-up for the Indian market, following its domestic debut at the Auto Expo 2016, Greater Noida last February. The brand's portfolio in India includes three models - Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee SRT. While the Wrangler is available in an exclusive 4-door 'Unlimited' Edition for INR 71.59 lakhs, the Grand Cherokee is offered in three trims - 'Limited' (INR 93.64 lakhs), 'Summit' (INR 1.03 crores), and the SRT edition for INR 1.12 crores. All prices are Ex-showroom, New Delhi.



The rugged-looking Jeep Wrangler is powered by four-cylinder 2.8-litre DOHC CRD turbocharged diesel engine generating 200 PS at 3,600 rpm and 460 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,000 rpm. The engine is paired to a 5-speed automatic gearbox and works in tandem with the standard Command-Trac Shift-On-Fly 4WD system. Hill Start and Roll-mitigation technologies are also present for off-road driving.

The Grand Cherokee, on the other hand, are powered by larger engines. The 'Limited' and 'Summit' variants source power from a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel motor that generates 243 PS at 3,600 rpm and 570 Nm of max torque at 2000 rpm. An 8-speed automatic gearbox with steering-mounted paddle shifters deliver power to the wheels via an active 4WD system, complemented by Selec-Terrain and a limited slip differential (only in 'Summit').

The flagship SRT Grand Cherokee houses a much powerful 6.4-litre Hemi V8 naturally aspirated petrol engine that pumps out 470 hp and 630 Nm of torque, and is mated to the same 8-speed automatic gearbox. The car boasts Brembo high-performance braking system and Selec-Track traction control, along with tweaked Active damping and suspension and steering.

The Grand Cherokee SRT can hit 100 kmph from standstill in a whooping 4.8 seconds; max speed  = 250 kmph!
As of now, the legendary American SUV-maker has exclusive dealerships in  Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. The company is planning to open 10 new outlets at different cities in the months to come to reach larger buyer base. It also said in a statement that the petrol-versions of its models are on the anvil and will reach the market by November 2017. The locally-assembled Jeep will also come by next year. The brand is gearing up for its next launch - the Renegade compact SUV.
