2016 BMW 7-Series India Debut - Auto Expo Live

BMW India has launched its latest 7-Series luxury sedan at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo for an amazing price of INR 1.11 crore to 1.55 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). This sixth-generation flagship sedan is an all-new car based on the rear-wheel drive CLAR (Cluster Architecture) modular platform.

The 2016 7-Series is that kind of a fantasy item we can write a book (or a novel) about. Right from the exterior design to built quality, this car is nothing short to a technological marvel. Built using carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) in the structural chassis components and in passenger cell, a technology used earlier in the company's 'i' range of cars, this car is lighter and stronger than the out-going model.

The sedan showcases its true character in its exterior design. From what ever angle you  look at, the styling is harmonious, and the surface design and precise lines express exclusivity. Take for instance the large kidney-shaped grille; they look fantastic in spite being repeatedly seen for years and several models. The sweeping headlamp design is an evolved design from the 3-Series; they get optional laser lights first used in the BMW i8 model.

From the sides, there exists outward-curving surface along with double-swage character lines, which gives the car a grand and classy appearance. The wrap-around window frame that takes in the Hofmeister kink is a single-piece element for the first time in a production model. The LED-powered L-shaped tail lamp clusters are bridged together by a chrome bar, along with the rear apron in the shape of exhaust tailpipes, is interesting.

Moving on to the interiors, the new 7-Series brings a luxurious and classy feel for the occupants. While the dashboard layout is evolutionary, the center console easily takes over your attention. The iDrive 5.0 infotainment system comes with gesture controls - Man that's fantastic!! Just show some sane gestures, the system responds like a pet.

The Indian-spec 7-Series is powered by either a V8 4.4-liter TwinPower turbo-charged petrol that can roar up to 450 hp and 650 Nm of torque, or an in-line 6-cylinder 3.0-liter TwinPower turbo diesel mill that pumps out 265 hp and 620 Nm of max torque. Both the powertrains are sync-ed with a standard 7-speed automatic gearbox.

BMW offers the flagship sedan in five trim levels, with prices ranging from INR 1.11 crore (730Ld Design Pure Excellence) to INR 1.55 crores (750Li M Sport). Every time, the company makes grand launching event of its cars, especially the 7-Series (like this one I remember). Auto expo became an equivalent choice for the launch this time. The BMW pavilion at the expo was in utter festivity as you can imagine!
