2013 Porsche Boxter: Open-top Happiness

The 2012 Geneva Motor show has just started. Of all the world's auto shows, the Geneva show is an important one and has served traditionally as one of opulence and design. It's also increasingly been where some of the top sports cars, supercars, and prestige luxury cars take a bow. WagenClub will bring you some interesting stories of the 10-day long auto festival this month starting with the account of an icon in the open-top motoring....

Porsche unveiled its next generation roadster, the Boxster. Lighter and more fuel-efficient, faster and more agile - with an all-new lightweight design body and completely revamped chassis, the latest generation of the Porsche Boxster is setting new top scores for Porsche Intelligent Performance. The front-end of the Boxster is dominated by the large lateral radiator openings and sleek headlamps. The new dynamic indentation in the doors, which guides the intake air to the striking intake in the rear side section is very expressive. But the completely redesigned rear is much more exciting. The new tail lights are perfectly integrated to the rear apron and the redesigned tail pipes complete the deep, centered look.

The Porsche Boxster's mid-engine concept has been a decisive reason for its outstanding agility ever since the roadster has existed. The 2.7 litre boxer engine produces 265 hp and achieves a top speed of 264 kmph with 0-100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds. The Boxster S version gets a bigger 3.4 litre motor producing 315 hp. With more engine power and less weight, it's quicker than ever, and it gets the 911's new electromechanical steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring as well.

The new Boxster is expected to hit the American streets by this summer and will probably take some more time to reach India. But, it's worth the wait!
