In a yet again India first, Mahindra has launched the battery-electric variant of its Supro LCV with a driving range up to 112 kms on single charge and top speed of 60 kmph. The eSupro Cargo is priced at INR 8.45 Lakhs, while the 8-seater passenger van is out for INR 8.75 Lakhs. Both the prices are Ex-showroom Delhi, post all government subsidy and FAME incentives. This is the home-grown company's third electric vehicle out for commercial sales, after the Mahindra e2o hatchback and eVerito sedan launched in June this year.
The eSupro EV was unveiled to public for the first time at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo early this year. This indigenously-developed EV is completely based on the Supro range of diesel vans underpinning the company's modular LCV platform, except for the new electric drivetrain. The vehicle measures 3,798 mm long, 1,540 mm wide, 1,922 mm high, with a wheelbase of 1,950 mm. The cargo variant weighs 1,280 kgs, while the passenger variant is 1320 kgs.

Run by a single motor that delivers 25 kW of power and 90 Nm of torque, a single-speed gearbox delivers power to the wheels of the eSupro. The power is sourced from the 72V lithium-ion battery pack with long-life and maintenance-free credentials. Plug-in charging is via a 15-amp home-use socket and recharging time in around 8 hours and 45 mins on an average.

The electric van features regenerative braking technology that recuperates energy everytime while braking to charge the batteries. There is also a 'Boost Mode' to get increased pulling power in case of steep inclines, while the 'Revive' mode gives an extra 7 km driving range to locate a charging facility in case the batteries dried out. The vehicles's instrument cluster is all-new with charging, distance-to-empty, gearing, and efficiency status display.
