BMW Motorrad has unveiled the updates 2017 model-year K 1600 B 'Bagger' at Los Angeles this week. Built on the chassis platform and powertrain as the K16 series, the new luxury cruiser sports a refreshed neo-retro styling. The K1600 B will go on sale by mid-2017 across US, while the Indian launch is expected by the end of 2017.
What does the term "Bagger" mean? Actually, the term is peculiar to North American bike culture, especially associated with Harley cruisers. Simply put, a bagger refers to a motorcycle with saddlebags, but it actually refers to those bikes that are loved by long-term riders and enthusiasts, who appreciate its comfort and function. Apart from additional storage, such bikes are often spotted with custom and personal upgrades by the bikers.

Now, coming back to the bagger we are dealing with, the K 1600 B is powered by a 1,649 cc straight-six transverse-mounted engine that delivers a superb 160 hp of power at 7,750 rpm and 175 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm. It is paired to a 6-speed shaft drive gearbox. On technology front, the B gets dynamic ESA (Electronic Stability Adjustment) and Traction Control with two riding modes - Road and Cruise, Shift Assistant Pro for clutch-less gear shifts, and Reverse assist for better maneuverability. A 5.7-inch TFT instrument cluster will take care of informatics, along with Intelligent Emergency Call feature.

On the design front, the K 1600 B wears a traditional high-point fairing and deep set side cases - typical American 'bagger style', while refreshed tail lamps and chrome plated mufflers complement the model's neo-retro styling. There is an electrically adjustable windscreen, along with re-positioned wind deflectors for optimum wind protection.
