2016 Jaguar XF (Second-Generation) Launched @ INR 49.50 Lakhs

new Jaguar XF launch India

Jaguar has launched the much-awaited second-generation XF executive luxury sedan in India. With a starting price of INR 49.50 Lakhs, the new XF will be available in 3 trim levels - Pure, Prestige and Portfolio - with the price scaling all the way up to INR 62.10 Lakhs for the top-spec variant. Both the petrol and diesel options are on the list, let's see how good the package is.

Yeah, you have to look closely at the new Jaguar to see if this is an all-new car. But before you end up thinking this as a mere facelift, certain styling elements like the hood cutline, new air vents, and drawn-out front quarter-panels may tell you that this car's styling has subtly evolved from the previous model. You wouldn't miss the sleek LED headlamps with 'J' blade LED DRLs - the first in a Jaguar per se. The sedan now looks more wider, less taller, but a bit stretched than the earlier model. The sharper-looking rear-end with elongated F-type inspired LED tail lamps and the chrome strip bring in a sense of grandeur put together with peppiness.

On the inside, the new XF's cabin is well laid-out and nicely appointed. Although the changes aren't radically different, the improvements are more in terms of quality and well-balanced ergonomics. For a price of this car, you would expect a heads-up-display, but there isn't any. Instead, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display housed in the centre console takes care of everything - navigation, vehicular informatics, 'InControl Touch Pro' app, and entertainment with the 17-speaker 825 kW Meridian Surround Sound System. The 3-spoke steering is nice to hold and the virtual instrument display is catchy, although the biggest problem in this high belt-line car is that the bulbous A-pillar eat into forward visibility.

2016 Jaguar XF debuts the company's new, efficient 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine in India
But the important highlight of this new car is the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine - 4 cylinder 16 valve unit producing an output of 177 hp and 430 Nm of torque. It is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and so 0-100 kmph sprint is assured in just 8.1 seconds with a top speed of 229 kmph. Only in the Prestige and Portfolio trims up in the ladder is the option of a 2.0-litre petrol engine rated at 237 hp and 340 Nm of torque, also with the same 8-speed auto gearbox.

With an extensive use of aluminium, the 2016 XF is 190 kgs lighter than its previous model. Jaguar’s Lightweight iQ Aluminium Architecture (also spawning the new Jaguar XE sedan and F-Pace SUV) facilitates a balanced drive, enabling an agile and precise handling, says the company. All the variants are equipped with 'Jaguar Drive Control' that offers four driving modes for the driver to choose -  Standard, Eco, Dynamic or Rain/Ice/Snow. The Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) is standard again, which works in tandem with Park Assist feature.

2016 Jaguar XF is well-built, more spacious, and better equipped than its predecessor
On the whole, the new 2016 Jaguar XF is an all-new promising candidate but with a regular costume. Although good-looking as the old model, the new car is lot more smarter in terms of built, space, and equipment levels. With the debut of the efficient 'Ingenuim' diesel engine, the XF seems to aim an edge over German trio - Mercedes E-class, BMW 5-series, and the Audi A6 - in terms of volume sales.
