Nissan has presented the next-generation Micra supermini hatchback for the first time at the just-begun 2016 Paris Motor Show. The new car owes a lot to the Nissan Sway concept in terms of design and styling, and has been specifically designed for the developed European markets.
Design wise, the new Micra is showing a lot of influence from the Sway concept from Geneva Motor Show last year. The car now looks more solid and consolidated now, it also appears longer, wider and lower than the previous model. The front fascia is dominated by a gentle iteration of the brand's signature 'V' grille, which is flanked by sweeping headlamps with LED DRLs. The shoulder lines start from the bonnet, touch the side OVRM area, and move upwards to reach the rear. The floating roof-like design and the sharp kink amid the windows and the tail lamps with LED detailing gives an elegant styling to the rear end.

Moving on to the cabin, the new Micra features a completely redesigned dual-tone dashboard with a central 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav, Bose six-speaker audio, and smartphone connectivity using Apple CarPlay. Nissan is also offering a host of driver assist and safety techs including lane-departure prevention and autonomous braking with Pedestrian Detection - both segment firsts in Europe. Features like 'Around View Monitor', traffic sign recognition, Active Ride Control and Active Trace Control systems, and blind spot warning concludes the new car's safety package.

Built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s new CMF-B platform, the fifth-generation Micra will be offered in three engine options - a 0.9-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol sourced from Renault, a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel of 89 bhp output rating, and a 75 bhp naturally-aspirated 1.0-litre petrol unit.

The 2017 Micra will be assembled at Renault’s plant in Elins, France, and will go on sale in Europe early next year. The company is following a two-car strategy for the Micra, with the AMEI (Asia, Middle East and India) region continue to receive a differentiated Micra model based on the previous generation built at Chennai, India.
