Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol Launched @ INR 13.73 Lakhs

Toyota Innova Crysta petrol launched

The all-new second generation Toyota Innova Crysta MPV is now available with a petrol engine option as well, along with the regular 2.4-litre diesel variants that is already on sale for sometime. This isn't just a variant addition, but the move will unlock one of the most lucrative market for the new car - Delhi NCR. Ever since the Supreme Court's ruling that banned the registration of diesel passenger cars above 2000cc late last year, Toyota could not sell its entire Innova range (previous generation) in the Delhi NCR including the latest replacement Crysta. The launch of the petrol variant is to be seen in this backdrop, as the ban is specific to diesel cars only.

The petrol engine in point is a 2.7-litre Dual VVT-i 4-cylinder unit that can pump a maximum output of 166 PS and 245 Nm of torque. Like the diesel, the engine can run on two driving modes - ECO and Power, and is also available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox option with sequential shift. In terms of fuel efficiency, which is likely to influence buying decisions in the petrol category, the company claims an ARAI-certified average figure of 10.83 kmpl for the automatic variant and 9.89 kmpl for the manual variant.

Looking back in the past, TKM launched a petrol variant of the popular Qualis MUV 'RS' (Royal Saloon) in 2002 after the car's success, in a bid to woo the premium car buyers. But the price tag was pretty expensive at INR 8.45 lakh, and the car's poor fuel efficiency made the petrol variant an inevitable flop. But that kind of an outcome is very unlikely for the Crysta Petrol, as the diesel prices are now deregulated and are almost on par with the petrol prices.

The Innova Crysta petrol features a 2.7-litre Dual VVT-i 4-cylinder producing 166 PS.
Moreover, metro cities like Delhi are the prime markets the car is aimed at, and with the recent Supreme Court and NGT decrees like the one to de-register diesel cars older than 10 years are engendering persistent fears among the diesel cars buyers (at least in Delhi NCT) on any potential fall in vehicle's resale value. Therefore, a petrol variant may be appealing.

The petrol line-up of the Innova Crysta starts with a price tag of INR 13.73 lakhs for the GX manual trim, scaling up all the way up to INR 19.62 lakhs for the high-end ZX Automatic. Other than the powertrain, every other features and options absolutely remains the same as the diesel line-up. All prices  are ex-showroom Delhi.
