2016 Hyundai Elantra Launched @ INR 12.99 Lakhs: Stunning Looks Guaranteed!

The all-new 2016 Hyundai Elantra is now available in the Indian market with a starting price tag of INR 12.99 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. While the out-going Elantra still looks contemporary and stunning, the new sixth-generation model has evolved into a classy premium sedan winning over every existing rivals in its segment. 


Design wise, the new Elantra is definitely a show-stopper. Hyundai's hexagonal grille and 'boomerang' LED daytime running lights grab one's attention at any cost. The sporty lower front fascia integrates with the front wheel air curtains, something akin to Sonata Hybrid's styling. The sleek character lines on the sides put emphasis on the sweeping side window silhouette. The rear quarter-panel area is the most elegant angle for this car, thanks to the coupe-ish contour and the sweeping tail lamp assembly with LED inserts.

The Elantra is 4610 mm long, 1800 mm wide, 1450 mm tall and has a wheelbase 2700 mm - marginally grown up comparing to its predecessor, but offers a big step up in interior space. Interiors are a big step-up in layout design and quality of materials used, largely influenced from its bigger sibling. The dashboard design is driver-centric and features new 3-spoke steering wheel, revised instrument cluster and central console, and SoyFoam seat cushions. The 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system with satellite navigation and Android Auto in select models is a new value-addition.

The new Elantra is offered with both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.6-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine is capable of making 128 PS, while the 2.0-litre NU petrol unit revs up to 152 PS and 160 Nm of torque at peak demand. Buyers can choose either 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission. While the performance appears adequate in paper, the average fuel efficiency for the petrol motor stands at 14.59 kmpl for manual and 14.62 kmpl for the auto variant. The diesel engine delivers 22.54 kmpl for the manual and 18.23 kmpl for the automatic. All figures are ARAI-certified.

Hyundai has adequately loaded the new sedan with safety features including front and side curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Start Assist, and rear parking sensors. Other fancy features included in the package includes 16-inch alloys, shark fin antenna, Apple CarPlay support, Satellite navigation, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, anti-pinch sunroof, and Start/stop button. 

On the whole, the new Elantra is one of the exciting everyday premium sedan that is currently available in the market. Once launched in India, Hyundai's sedan will fight against the likes of Skoda Octavia, VW Jetta, Toyota Corolla and the Chevrolet Cruze.
