2017 Audi A5 & S5 Coupe - In Pictures

One of the best design icon from Audi, the A5 Coupe has undergone a massive makeover with the advent of its second-generation model nine years after its inception. The new car has got a modern and honed look, weighs less and more efficient with sophisticated aerodynamics and fine-tuned engines, and is loaded with leading infotainment and driver assistance technologies. The company has also unveiled the A5's brute avatar - S5 Coupe - that is both eye-catchy in appearance and a maniac in road performance. Both the cars will go on sale in Europe by the end of 2016.

Making a design masterpiece look more beautiful is a difficult task, but the designers at Audi have done that with the A5 fair and square. The long bonnet, elongated wheelbase, and short overhangs are perfectly kept in balance, while the wave-shaped shoulder lines and sweeping body line with pronounced bulges over the wheel arches are something that seems to be kept intact in the A5's DNA right from the first generation model. The S5, on the other hand, comes with even more sharper exterior styling and 'S' badging both inside and out.

The aesthetically crafted single frame grille is now flatter and wider, along with the swayed headlamps with optional Matrix LEDs and four character lines on the hood, have been passionately inspired from the Audi Prologue concept. The chunky multi-spoke alloy wheel gives a distinct profile to the car, while the rear is again dominated by the swooping LED tail lamps. The new A5's flowing bodywork has been aerodynamically-tuned to deliver a minimal drag coefficient of just 0.25. The car also stands on a new platform and a sturdy chassis, which is lighter than before.

The two-door sports coupe will be powered by over five different engines, a mix of two TFSI petrol and three TDI diesel motors ranging over between between 190PS and 286PS of power. Of the lot, the 3.0-litre V6 TDI and TFSI are the top-spec ones. The engines are paired to either a six-speed manual or the seven-speed S tronic auto gearbox. An 8-speed Tiptronic auto is reserved for the 286 PS diesel versions and the S5's newly developed, turbocharged V6 354 PS engine. The A5 comes standard with 'Quattro' all-wheel drive, along with optional rear-axle sport differential.
