2017 Bugatti Chiron: Numbers Can't Be Any Bigger!

veyron replacement
If there was one car that set the standard for the hypercars in the last decade, it got to be the Bugatti Veyron. It had no hybrid tech like many of its rivals, nor shot up to fame out of sheer exclusivity. The Veyron was prodigy in performance, it had a power output 1,000 hp. A decade later, Bugatti has revealed its successor - the Chiron - with an additional power of 500 hp on board, at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. As usual, the production of the Chiron is limited to 500 units, and you can take home the ultimate performance machine for 'just' 2.4 million Euros, equivalent to INR 17.93 Crores!!

For such an exclusive league of production super sports cars, the numbers ought to be bigger. The Chiron is claimed to deliver 1500 metric horsepower (1480 bhp) with a maximum torque of 1,600 Nm between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm, making it the world's most powerful production car ever made. The Chiron even exceeds the Keonigsegg Regera Hybrid supercar in practical power output and acceleration. Bugatti says that the car's top speed is electronically restricted to 420 kmph (261 mph) for sake of 'road use'! The Chiron can sprint from idle to 100 kmph in less than 2.5 seconds, before attaining 200 kmph by the sixth second and 300 kmph mark by 13.5 seconds from the idle, adds the company.

The power source for such exceptional performance is the 8.0-litre W16 engine featuring high-spec turbochargers and 32-injector duplex fuel injection system. Although inherited from the Veyron, the engine has undergone massive transformations with new components, redesigned two-stage turbo system, and a much-efficient cooling system. This is evident with the performance figures, as the Chiron delivers 25% more power than its predecessor. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, along with an all-time four-wheel drive system and an electronically controlled locking differential at the rear.

Bugatti Chiron is the much-awaited Veyron replacement, with production limited to only 500 units
In terms of the design, the Chiron closely follows the brand's design DNA, while embodying new elements at the same time. The most distinctive feature that catches one's attention foremost is the 4-eyed head lamp clusters and the quintessential upright-oval Bugatti grille design. The side C-bar, also known as the 'Bugatti line', is more pronounced than before, while the rear end appears fresh with redesigned tail lamps with the brand signature. The Chiron is taller and wider than the Veyron, giving the car a large cabin feel for a car of this kind.

With 1500 horsepower, the Bugatti Chiron is the world's most powerful production car
Under the opulent skin, the new Bugatti underpins an all-new, sturdy carbon monocoque chassis with LeMans-type rigidity. Even the outer body panels are made entirely of carbonfibre. This has helped the car to be lighter-yet-strong, weighing just 1,995 kgs. It is fitted with an adaptive chassis suspension setup with five driving modes - Lift, Auto, Autobahn, Handling, and Top-speed. The braking system has also been re-tuned as well.
