Volkswagen Beetle (Next-Generation) - 2016 Auto Expo

The iconic Beetle that pops-up in our minds whenever we think of the Volkswagen brand has made a re-entry into the Indian market after a pause of two years. VW is now selling the next-generation Beetle for a price of INR 28.73 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai). The new Beetle made an appearance at the 2016 Auto Expo that will come to an end by tomorrow. The car is based on the VW's A5 (PQ35) platform that also underpins the latest Jetta sedan. Although all-new in mechanicals and platform, the new Beetle retains the shape of the original Type 1 Beetle by and large.

The Beetle is probably the most recognisable automotive design in the world. The designers have given a more mature and modern styling while bringing the contours of the original car as well. In fact, the modern-day Beetle was reborn in 1997 with a contemporary design, this new car that we see today is more of an evolution from that model.

The Beetle now maintains a lower profile, thanks to wider and longer front bonnet and a more steeper incline of the windscreen. The curvy and the bulbous design of the car is more contemporary and appealing than the 1997-born Beetle as well. The Bi-xenon headlamps now comes with LED-DRLs, while the rear of the car is marked by dynamic tail lamps and funky spoiler. The car is 1,808 mm wide, 1,486 mm tall, and 4,278 mm long, with an overall wheelbase measuring 2,537 mm.
