The much-anticipated compact SUV by home-grown Tata Motors is finally here - the production ready Nexon compact SUV has received global premiere at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo that opened yesterday for the media.
This youthful and bold-looking segment buster is the first sub-4 metre compact SUV that Tata Motors have embarked on.

In terms of exterior design and styling, the Nexon is loosely based on the Nexon concept from the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. The car is built on the Tata X1 platform which underpins the Bolt and Zest models. The school of thought behind the design is Tata Motor's next-generation ‘Impact Design’ philosophy. The honey-comb like upper grille complemented with burgeoning headlamps and bulbous bumpers dominate the front fascia, while the rear gets short-yet-trendy hatch door with a narrow wind shield. The rising belt-line and a sloping roof mimics the silhoutte that of the Land Rover Evoque.
Sadly, interiors of the car were not revealed at the show. We expect a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports voice control and command recognition to be present in the car.
As far as the size of the car is concerned, in spite of a bulky stance, the Nexon looks neither too big, nor tall. Therefore, it will be more of a crossover than a proper SUV. Long wheel-base and a wider cabin are its greatest advantages, which is likely to woo buyers in this segment.

Under the hood of the Nexon is the Tata’s 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 110 bhp. This all-new, in-house developed engine debuts with this car for the first time. Also available is the more powerful turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine borrowed from the new Zica hatch. Both the engines are mated to a new 6-speed manual transmission.
