Derived from the popular Captain series of trucks, the new tractor-trailer unit is the company's new addition in the 40 - 49 tonne range, offering world-class cabin and fuel-efficient drive-train.
Ashok Leyland says that the Captain 40iT has undergone an extensive
road-testing of more than 2.3 million kilometres, and has been specifically
developed considering Indian requirements in mind. The truck brings a blend of
driver comfort, performance and aesthetic, add the company. In terms of safety
features, the tractor unit comes with standard ABS (as mandated by Ministry of Road and Transport for all trucks) and seat belts.
The Captain 40iT is powered by a 'H-Series' turbocharged,
common-rail (CRS) diesel engine that develops a peak 180 horsepower and
660Nm of torque. A 9-speed manual gearbox with ceramic Clutch disc and clutch
boosters is paired to the BS 4 compliant engine, along with clutch boosters for fatigue-less driving. The volume of the fuel tank is 200 litres.
