The third-gen Hyundai Tuscon has made an Indian debut at the just began 2016 Auto Expo. Hyundai India will start selling this car by mid-June this year, most likely via CKD route.
On the face of it, the new Tuscon is fresh with bold and striking exteriors, thanks to the sculpted body forms and sporty contours. The front fascia is dominated by the large hexagonal grille in line with the brand's design signature and the slender LED twin-projector headlights along with integrated LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). It's roof rails are sleek and low-profile, while the side profile is way sportier and aggressive, enhanced by the Z-shaped character line above the rear wheels. On the rear, the LED-powered taillamp clusters, twin, bevel-cut chrome exhausts, and a standard rear spoiler grabs the attention. The appealing interior design is one of the Tuscon's biggest strengths.
The 2016 Tuscon is longer and wider than its predecessor, and the longer wheelbase brings greater interior volume and versatility. Under the hood is the Hyundai’s 2.0-litre (1,995 cc) four-cylinder turbo-charged diesel that develops 182 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It is mated to a _-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai’s Active On-Demand AWD system is also on the offer.
The first-generation Tuscon that was launched in India a decade back was well-ahead of its times and quite a disaster. But the new model that makes a grand comeback is spot on, as the presence of SUVs and crossovers in our market is overwhelming. It is positioned rightly between the compact Creta and the flagship Santa Fe in Hyundai India's line-up. The 5-seater SUV will go against the like of the popular Mahindra XUV 500 and the just launched Tata Hexa crossover. It will be locally assembled at the company's Chennai plant as well.
