2017 Porsche 718 Boxster

The new Porsche Boxster is a lot more than a face-lift. It has got a new name; it's the first four-cylinder car Porsche has made for the past 21 years; and its lot faster, powerful, and more economical. Twenty years after its debut, the latest mid-engined roadster is quintessentially exciting.

Notably, the 3.4-litre flat-six engine usually offered in the Boxster line-up is a thing of past and is replaced with a 2.0-litre flat-four motor that makes 300 hp and 280 pound-feet of max torque. The performance-oriented Boxster S model will feature a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder with with 350 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque. In spite of downsized engine, the new 718 Boxster models are significantly faster and more powerful - the engine produces 35 hp and 74 lb-ft more than its predecessor with a flat-six powertrain. Further, they are highly fuel efficient as the fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 13 percent as claimed by the company.

As apparent with the looks, the new Boxster seems more muscular up front thanks to flamboyant air intakes and refreshed bi-xenon headlamps with integrated LED DRLs. The side skirts have been refreshed, side air intakes have been widened, and a new three-dimensional LED taillights dominate the rear. A refreshed dashboard and a new steering wheel sums up the changes made inside the cabin.

Porsche claim that the new Boxster achieves 0-100 km/h sprint in just 5.4 seconds, with the S model managing in 4.9 seconds. The 718 Cayman will have the same engines and power figures as the Boxster lineup. Hopefully, the 718 Boxster, Cayman, Boxster S and Cayman S will be introduced later this year in India, with prices starting above INR 95 lakhs.
