Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the all-new fifth-generation E-Class at the on-going 2016 North American International Motor Show in Detroit. Apart from numerous technical innovations, the new E-Class boasts lightweight design and record-breaking aerodynamics figures, along with a newly developed diesel engine, setting new standards for efficiency.
Let's start with the technological aspects of the new
E-Class. The 'Drive Pilot' semi-autonomous driving feature, for instance, can
drive the car on its own on highways at speeds up to 210 kmph. There is no need
for the driver to accelerate or brake while on autonomous drive, although he
might need to take up steering control at speeds beyond 130 kmph. The system
syncs with the navigational system for real-time updates on speed limits. Other
fanciful tech features includes remote parking pilot system using smartphone
app and Car-to-X communication, a car-to-car networking feature.

sillhoutte. Multi-beam LED headlamps with 84 individually controlled LEDs each

the Daimler's new business saloon. The interiors has taken a huge leap in terms
of modern design and quality, on the lines of the S-Class again. The steering
wheel comes with with touch-sensitive control buttons. A Burmester 3D surround audio system and a
64-colour cabin illumination ambient lighting package is also on the list.
The new E-Class will be offered with a range of four
combustion engines along with a plug-in-hybrid version. The European-spec
models with get 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol (E 200) and diesel units (E 220
d), both mated to a 9-speed auto gearbox, producing 184 hp and 195 hp
respectively. The E 350 d trim will feature a 3.0-litre V6 diesel developing
258 hp and 620 Nm of torque, while the E 400 4MATIC verison will feature a
6-cylinder petrol engine that produces 333 hp and 480 Nm of torque. Mercedes
will also introduce E 350 e plug-in-hybrid which has a 4-cylinder petrol
engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack.
The new E-Class is likely to reach the Indian showrooms by
the end of this year as CBU, with local assembly starting in 2017. Mercedes is
also reported to be working on a long-wheelbase variant of the new E-Class for
markets like India and China.
