Land Rover ‘Evoque Plus’ Finally On Test, Will Be Ready by 2016

Land Rover is working on an all-new seven-seat luxury crossover to address the potential gap in its product line-up between the compact Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. It is reported that the officially unnamed car (which media calls as 'Evoque Plus') has been spotted testing in Britain, with a possible debut by end of 2016. The new car will also spawn a first pure-electric Range Rover with an estimated 482 km driving range. The legendary British car maker with 4WD vehicles as its forte is stretching the possibilities of the Range Rover sub-brand for an amusing future.

This new car will be the fourth model in the company's Range Rover model line, the other three being the flagship Range Rover, RR Sport, and RR Evoque. This new car is based on the upcoming Jaguar F-Pace SUV but with a stretched wheelbase for a third row of seats and a fully reworked nose and radiator intake (as envisaged in the recent rendering shown below). The Evoque Plus sits on the iQ lightweight modular aluminium architecture that underpins both the F-pace SUV and new 2016 Jaguar XF sedan.

New Range Rover 'Evoque Plus' will offer seven seats

The base models of the car are expected to cost from 40,000 British pounds (INR 36.52 lakhs), featuring Ingenium range of 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines (which first appeared in 2016 Jaguar XE), while the top-spec trim will possibly get bulky V6 engines with an all-wheel drive layout that are already in duty in other Range Rovers for a provisional price of 65,000 British pounds (INR 59.35 lakhs).

This new Range Rover is designed with lower roofline and on-road preferences. The addition of height-adjustable air suspension and electronic traction control systems will also make this car suitable for average cross-country drive. All these appears that the new car is aimed at buyers who look for sporty, high-performance wagons in some of the wealthy markets in globe.

The first full electric vehicle in the Range Rover’s history in on the cards

It is also being reported that the stretched Evoque will also spawn a pure electric vehicle using the same battery-electric powertrain setup of the F-Pace EV. This marks the first full electric vehicle in the Range Rover’s history. It is expected with a pure-electric range of 300 miles (482 km) under ideal conditions, with prices estimated at a whopping 85,000 British Pounds (INR 77.53 lakhs).

The new Evoque Plus will share assembly-lines with the XE and the F-Pace at JLR’s Solihull facility, England. The Range Rover model line certainly does a considerable business for the Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR). The Tata Motors-owned company aims a six-strong Range Rover line-up - with the Evoque convertible going on sale next year and the aforementioned Evoque Plus by end of 2016. The sixth model which can be called as 'baby Evoque' is a sub-compact SUV which the company is believed to have started working internally. Sounds amazing isn't it?? So, we have to start looking for comprehensive meanings for the superlative term "Range Rover"!!
