The next-generation 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Saloon came to the
limelight last year. With its launch in India, the only weird-looking model in
the VW India’s fleet which was deprived of VW’s new age design philosophy is
gone. At Rs.14.12 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), the new babe would be a worthy
deal in the D-segment.
During its launch in auto shows last year, the car gained a
good reputation. It is completely a serious stuff and isn’t a mere updation to
its predecessor. The very first sight of the car will tell you that. Due to its
stretched, widen and lower stance, it looks like a slightly shrunken Passat
than a grown-up Jetta ironically.
The car’s numerous flowing lines in its body panels and flanks, and its low-profile running boards gives it an up-market appeal. And the design of aero-dynamical body pillars adds up to that. The most grabbing thing is its narrowed sharp grille, which is the VW’s new design language, and an Audi A4 inspired rear tail lights which is proportioned to the boot. Not to forget that new day-time running lights and dual-exhausts which makes the new Jetta much-more sportier.

But the car’s interior is hardly distinctive but superbly
built leatherette upholstery, rear AC vents and a touch screen entertainment
system. But, it lacks excitement and
feels cheaper. Though the car is based on Golf’s platform, it retains the front
suspension setup alone but the larger Passat shares few items with it. The
2.0-litre CRDi engine mated to 6-speed Gear box in both manual and automatic
transmission (DSG) is expected to perform better and be fuel-efficient. It
makes 140PS and 320Nm of torque, same as the Passat.
The new Jetta would ensure a stiff competition in the D-segment which increasingly gets new-models every day!
