Daimler Trucks has presented the latest Unimog range of multi-purpose all-wheel drive trucks at the 2016 IAA Commercial Vehicles Show, Hannover that closes today. One of the most-rugged and powerful trucks ever created for civilian purposes, the Unimog U 4023 and U 5023 are now available in 4-door crew cab layout. 


The extreme all-terrain Unimog U 4023/ U 5023 range is well-known for its compact design and practical purposefulness, not to forget its dynamism in terms of multi-utility, generous power, and reliability. There trucks are designed for harsh and remote operations like interior mining or for the construction sector, featuring flexible ladder-frame chassis, a full-time all-wheel-drive with differential locks in both axles, and automatic Tyre Control technology.

Portal axles of the Unimog vehicles ensure optimum ground clearance to tackle rugged terrain, while thrust tubes suspension allows long spring travel and diagonal axle articulation, along with good amount of traction from the all-wheel drive system. The upright chimney and snorkel provide a maximum wading depth of 800 mm to take on even the most water obstacles with ease.

The Unimog U 4023/ U 5023 are powered by Mercedes-Benz OM 934 LA  5.1-litre vertical, in-line 4-cyl turbocharged-intercooled diesel engine producing a maximum power output of 231 hp and 900 Nm of peak torque. It is paired to a fully synchronised Mercedes-Benz forward-reverse gearbox with 8 forward and 6 reverse gears, along with Electro pneumatic Power Shift (EPS) and Electronic Quick Reverse (EQR) feature. The engine gets the brand's 'BluEfficiency' tag and is Euro VI compliant.

The short-bonnet cab of the Unimog can seat up to 7 passengers including driver and comes standard with air conditioning and heater. Designed for utmost utility and easy accessibility, the Unimog cabin supports wide range of applications and modifications to suit individual needs of the operators. Other key features in the truck includes multi-func Steering wheel, Cruise control, Electronic automated transmission (EAS), 2-stage engine brake with steering-mounted control stalk, 4-channel off-road AB, Pre-selection tyre pressure modes, and electric windows.
