Maruti Suzuki has updated its entry-level product aimed at masses - the Alto 800 - with prices ranging from INR 2.49 lakhs (STD trim) to INR 3.34 lakhs for the top-trim VXi (O). The latest additions include marginal exterior design and interior tweaks, two new body colours, and a spike in fuel efficiency. 


A legitimate successor to the legendary Maruti 800, the Alto 800 was launched way back in 2012 and is one of the cheapest BS 4 hatchback one can buy in India today, apart from the tiny-teeny Tata Nano. It is offered in four trim levels with optional variants at each trims.

The latest addition includes a redesigned front face with fresh headlamp units, a thinner upper grille, and a refreshed lower bumper design now housing fog lamps. The wheel caps design seems to be new, while every other aspects of the exterior design remains the same all over the car. Two new paint jobs are on the list -  Mojito Green and Cerulean Blue. On the inside, the tiny hatch gets dark grey interior with refreshed seats and door-trims. The rear seats now feature integrated headrests for the passengers.

Although the Alto 800 is powered by the same 3-cylinder 796cc F8D petrol engine, the company claims that a specially coated piston rings have been deployed to minimise frictional losses in the new car that results in 9 percent spike in fuel efficiency. The engine also now features drive-by-wire technology.

The Alto 800 gets an optional driver-side airbag and CNG-kits in all trims. Maruti Suzuki must offer dual-side airbags and ABS in the Alto 800 and K10 models as a pioneer for passenger safety in the segment, as the export-spec variants that are manufactured alongside these cars at the company's Manesar plant already have those features.
